What are the Apartment Types? What are its Features?

The following article will look at apartment types and their features. Remember that all of these apartment types exist in Turkey Real Estate and that we can assist you in finding the most suitable apartment in Istanbul properties or anywhere else.

What is a apartment? How to Choose the Most Suitable Apartment for You?

An apartment is a living unit within one (or more) residential structures, or a distinct home within a house with its own entrance, bathroom, and kitchen.

How to choose the most suitable apartment for you? The apartment's size and price both play a significant role in the decision-making process, but other, less obvious factors are also important to consider. Buyers, investors, and renters each have their own unique checklist of key points that they need to investigate before selecting an apartment. Nevertheless, there are a great number of additional critical aspects to think about that I have put together for you.

  • When choosing the most suitable apartment for you, one of the most crucial factors to consider is location. While looking for an apartment, consider your lifestyle and needs. Do you want to live in a peaceful suburban region or in the city? Consider how distant the apartment is from essential locations, such as your child's school, entertainment alternatives, grocery stores, and so on.

  • If you commute to work, you undoubtedly value quick access to public transportation or you need a garage for a car. If you don't have a car or don't drive frequently, see if the apartment is close to restaurants, shopping, and public transportation choices such as the subway. For most of us, this entails relocating to an apartment that is conveniently placed near our place of employment or an educational institute that we attend.  Some people choose to drive for 30 minutes, while others prefer to walk, ride, or take public transportation.

  • Is there a grocery store, a bank, restaurants, a fitness center, a local pub, and other services that you want to be close to?

  • How far are you willing to go and what kind of transportation will you use to get to these places?

  • Make sure that doing the things you need to do every day doesn't become a challenge for you.

  • Other location considerations that are secondary to the above but still essential include neighborhood associations, dog parks, safety concerns, and so on. Consider all of the criteria while deciding on a location, but make sure to prioritize their significance.

  • Make a list of the things that are most important to you in an apartment. Some of the most common must-have features are a gated entrance and security that is available 24/7, but you should also think about your lifestyle when making your list. For example, if you have a pet, the most important thing for you is to find an apartment that allows pets.

  • Even though it would be great to find an apartment with everything you need, try to be flexible and ask about other options — particularly if you want to stay on a budget.

  • Speaking of budget, determine how much rent you can possibly pay. Most apartment complexes will demand you to make at least two times the rent, so keep that in mind while you look for your new apartment.

  • When looking at apartments, inquire with the property management or landlord about which utilities you will be responsible for.  Remember that there are additional costs besides the basic rental amount. Ask about any recurring fees when visiting apartments. You may incur all or some of the following additional costs as a result of your apartment selection: cable TV, internet services, parking, bus pass, pet fees, and more... Before you choose an apartment, add the items you will be expected to cover to your average rent and subtract them if the property manager gives any of these items for free, such as free internet. However, I recommend you read the fine print.

  • Another factor to consider is the cost of relocation. When you move, they are one-time financial events that might be significant, so choose your apartment intelligently the first time to avoid multiple moving expenses. It is necessary to add in move-in fees such as security deposits, application fees, and administration fees.

  • The idea is to avoid living over your means and select an apartment that you can afford comfortably.

  • Everyone has a maximum they're willing to pay, so finding that balance is the key.

Now that you have an idea about how to choose the apartment that is most suitable for you, it is time to look at the different types of apartments that are:

What is Studio Apartment?

The term "studio apartment" refers to the more cost-effective apartments that offer a reasonable amount of living space. Students attending nearby universities were the most common occupants of studio apartments in urban areas, particularly during the academic year. However, as time went on, studio flats evolved into more conventional living areas. In studio apartments, all of the living areas are combined into one another. The kitchen, living room, and bedroom are all meant to be open to one another. This design offers a more cost-effective living arrangement in addition to a more functional lifestyle. The 1+0 combination apartments have a combined living area with the kitchen in one space. The only additional space available in apartments like these is the property's bathroom.  Studio apartments are especially beneficial for people who live alone because it cuts down on other expenses like heating, electricity, and water bills while also cutting down on the amount of time it takes to clean the apartment. It is also considered a key investment instrument for people who desire to earn revenue by renting out their properties.

What is Alcove Studio Apartment?

There are also studio apartments that are laid up in a 1+1 configuration which we call alcove studio apartments. In alcove studio apartments the kitchen and living room are together, whereas there is an additional room or an alcove. Because alcove studio apartments have such constrained living areas, they are typically the dwelling of choice for solitary individuals who are either students or people who live alone. The standard configuration for alcove studio apartments also accommodates two individuals. The most significant benefit of alcove studio apartments is the lower costs.

What is Convertible Studio Apartment?

A convertible apartment is practically the same thing as a studio apartment, but it comes with a special area that may be used as a bedroom. The square footage of this sort of apartment is comparable to that of a standard studio apartment but slightly less than that of a one-bedroom unit. In a convertible apartment, the sleeping area and the living space are not entirely distinct from one another; yet, there is a distinct delineation between the two that allows for some degree of flexibility. To provide some separation between the primary living area and the sleeping area, a passageway, an alcove, a partial wall, a side room with a sliding door, or even just a staircase can be used to delineate the area.

What is Micro Apartment?

A micro-apartment is a type of studio apartment that is intended to accommodate a single person and is constructed to take up as little space as possible. It offers all the conveniences that you would expect to find in a typical studio apartment, such as a kitchen, bathroom, and general living space; however, all of these features are compacted into a space that is only a few sq.m. Although there may not be a lot of room, micro-apartments are typically constructed to make the most of the available square footage in terms of both their aesthetics and their functionality. This is accomplished through the use of design elements such as high ceilings and tall windows, which add both height and airiness to the space. Additionally, this is accomplished with intelligent features such as beds and tables that can be folded into the wall when they are not in use.

What is Loft Apartment?

A loft is a place to live that is usually in an old industrial building that has been renovated. Lofts usually have an open layout with high ceilings and big windows. Lofts don't have as much storage space as traditional apartments because they don't have as many built-in cabinets or closets. The bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens in an apartment are all separated by walls inside the apartment. Open-concept lofts, on the other hand, usually only have walls inside the bathrooms. In a loft, roommates can use dividers, which don't give much privacy. Lofts usually cost more than apartments and have higher utility bills because it costs more to heat and cool a bigger space.

What is Duplex Apartment?

The term "duplex apartments" refers to one apartment with two floors linked by a stairway. This is a luxurious setting, but it is not synonymous with a duplex. A duplex structure is usually owned by a single person.  The owner can rent out one or both units.  A duplex is a unit in a two-unit building, whereas an apartment is a unit in a multi-unit residential building or complex. It's also vital to distinguish between duplex buildings and twin dwellings, which are sometimes mistaken. A duplex is a single-family residence on a single lot, whereas twin dwellings are two half-sized houses connected by a shared wall but located on separate lots. A duplex is a multi-family dwelling with two units in the same structure. The floor plan of these two flats can vary, but they always share a shared wall. Units can be placed on top of each other or put side by side to take up an entire level or two of the structure.

What is Triplex Apartment?

Triplexes are similar to duplexes. Depending on where they are positioned, each of these unique sections can share common walls. Each apartment in the triplex will have its own kitchen, bathrooms, living room, separate doors leading to the exterior, address, and unit number. Some triplexes were built as single-family homes. It is not connected to the public utility grid and does not share a gate with any other residence. There are no common walls or roofs. However, they can also build to accommodate a set number of households and typically have three separate entrances.

What is Co-op Apartment?

Co-housing is a contraction of cooperative housing. You'll share a building with other people, but instead of buying your own apartment, you'll buy shares in the entire complex. By definition, a "housing cooperative" (or "co-op") is a building that is owned and managed by a group of people whom each have an equal stake in the building and the same voting and membership rights as the other members. Each member of a co-op community acts as a shareholder in a non-profit corporation governed by a board of directors. What this means is that a co-op owner does not have an outright title to the apartment but rather shares in the co-op that are valued based on the apartment's square footage and attractiveness. Co-ops are mostly found in major cities and occur in many forms:

  • single-family homes,
  • apartment complexes,
  • elder housing,
  • student housing,
  • special-needs housing, etc.

What is Garden Apartment?

The term "garden apartment" is used to describe a certain category of the apartment complex that is designed to resemble an outside setting (a garden) and can have one, two, or even three levels (low rise). The complex is also distinguished by the presence of garden-like surroundings, as it is encompassed on all sides by grass, trees, bushes, and gardens.

What is High-rise Apartment?

It's not uncommon for high-rise buildings to have eight or more stories. The highest-floor apartments in high-rise structures are typically the most expensive to rent. There may be no doors or windows that open in high-rise dwellings. These structures often have 40 or 50 stories. Beyond their level design, there are other similarities among these apartment complexes. Elevators, a lobby, and sometimes even a doorman or security guard are also commonplace features. Swimming pools, fitness centers, and business centers are some examples of additional amenities. Large apartment complexes are designed to survive natural disasters like earthquakes. As a precaution against structural damage in severe winds, they are designed to sway gently. No one living in the building will usually experience any tremors. There is also the issue of fire safety for people who live in high-rises. Check with your landlord or the building manager to make sure there are adequate safety features installed. A sprinkler system, smoke alarms, and well-marked stairwells are all essential safety features. In case of a fire, you and your roommates should go over the escape route from your apartment to the main exit of the building. You should probably look elsewhere for housing if the building lacks or has broken fire safety features.

What is Mid-rise Apartment?

Generally speaking, a building is considered to be a mid-rise apartment if it has more than four floors but fewer than twelve floors.

-What is Low-rise Apartment?

A low-rise apartment building, often known as a garden-style apartment building, has four stories or fewer.

-What is Railroad Apartment?

Apartments with aligned rooms that may be entered straight into one another without the use of a hallway are referred to as railroad apartments. A widespread misunderstanding is that a railroad is an apartment building that has a linear layout. But if there is a hallway within the apartment, then it is not a railroad apartment. In railroad apartments, the only way to get out of one room and into another is to go through the adjoining room. The only exceptions to this rule are bathrooms, which can be connected to the side of a room, and apartments that have more than one door. Apartments like these often stretch from the front to the back of a building, and their floor plans can have from around one to three or even more bedrooms.
